Field Trips

The best way to experience our story is to explore our space!  Museum field trips can accommodate any age range and a wide variety of subjects to supplement the school curriculum.  Tour fees are based on staff time and supplies needed for activities.

Basic Tour

Fee: $4.00 per student

Length: 1 hour

Class Size:  We can only bring up to 20-25 students at a time on a single tour.  For larger groups, we bring on additional staff and rotate groups between different parts of the tour and activities.

Description:  Museum L-A is located in a historic mill building.  Our place-based learning programs give students a chance to feel what life was like for the people who spent their working lives within our brick walls.  School field trips are designed to engage students of all ages, and we are happy to tailor content to the school curriculum and student interests.

Tour with Additional Activities

Fee: $8.00 per student

Length: 1-2 hours

Class Size:  We break up larger classes into groups of 20-25 students and rotate them between activities and building tours.

Description:  In addition to our standard tour, we also offer hands-on activities that encourage students to interact with historical objects, inventions, and stories.  These experiences develop critical and creative thinking skills as students increase their knowledge of the community and its people.  Teachers can work with the Museum Educator to select the best activities for their class.

Classroom Visits

If you can't make it to Museum L-A, or if you would like a pre-or post-visit lesson in your school to enhance the field trip experience, the Museum can come to you!  Museum L-A's Educator can visit your class to lead a lesson on one of the following topics:
  • Child Labor
  • Immigration
  • Simple Machines
  • Weaving/Textiles
  • Learning with Historic Objects
Note: We are only able to travel up to 1.5 hours from Museum L-A.

Fee:  $6.00 per student for schools within a 10-mile radius

Beyond 10 miles, schools reimburse $.60 per mile (subtracting the 10 miles included in the basic fee).  For example, a school 25 miles away from Museum L-A would add $9.00 (15 miles x $.60/mile = $9.00),

Length: 45 minutes to 1.5 hours

Class Size: Our Educator can lead one class at a time and can stay throughout the morning or afternoon to work with multiple classes.

Description: The Educator will lead students in a lesson based on the topic of the teacher's choosing.  Each lesson includes material that provides historical context, as well as hands-on activities to fully engage students.
